Top 5 Family-Friendly Things to Do in the Mile High City

July 22, 2015 By Mark Hunke

If you are thinking of purchasing an executive home in the Denver area, you might wonder whether there are ways for you and your family to enjoy a relaxing weekend without a lot of travel time. The Mile High City is a Travel Channel favorite, so it just goes to show that once you live here, you can turn your weekend into a mini-vacation without ever leaving your hometown.

Denver’s Downtown Aquarium

Although Denver is smack in the middle of a desert and surrounded by mountains, the Downtown Aquarium provides an unusual and beautiful respite. More than one million gallons of water contain more than 500 species of oceanic and freshwater marine life. If you like to get up close and personal, you will really enjoy the interactive touch tank, where you can pet all kinds of creatures – including stingrays. Even the restaurant, surrounded by 50,000 gallons of tropical fish, provides a unique experience that is fun for the entire family.

The Botanic Gardens

Denver’s Botanic Gardens were beautiful in The Sleeper, a popular Woody Allen film, but it is even more stunning in person. There are three locations spread out across the city, including themed gardens providing the perfect place for an afternoon stroll, a large amphitheater that is home to some of the city’s most underrated productions, and rotating exhibits that offer a chance for people of all ages to learn more about the outdoors and the nature that surrounds them.

Coors Field

If you are a fan of baseball and you know your facts when it comes to Major League stadiums, then you might already know that Coors Field offers the highest elevation in the league. The field is relatively new in terms of stadiums, and it is always expanding. There are some 52 craft beers on tap, and the field is home to the Blue Moon Brewing Company, the makers of one of the most celebrated craft beers in the industry.

The Source

Denver is home to hundreds of restaurants, markets, and breweries, and no matter how long you live in the Mile High City, you might never get around to experiencing all of them. Fortunately, there is The Source, a 19th century warehouse boasting 26,000 square feet filled with specialty produce growers, butchers, bakers, and even brewers – all under the same roof. Here, you can purchase your groceries for the week, try new foods, and even sit down to enjoy a meal or a brand new craft beer. It is one of the city’s best destinations for those who enjoy local culinary and craft offerings.

Water World

Though the park is technically 10 miles to the north of Denver, it is well worth the drive. One of America’s largest water parks, it is set on a sprawling 68 acres with slides, pools, rides, and adventures for people of all ages. If you want to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with the family, be sure to spend some time floating down the long Lazy River. Water coasters and wave pools round out the experience.

When you live in Denver, every weekend can be an adventure if you know where to look. From museums to baseball games and even a day at an enormous water park, Denver is one of America’s best places to live.
